Sharon’s report back from her yoga retreat

Sharon doing headstandSo in April I spent two weeks in Northern India near Amritsar on a yoga retreat. I had promised myself that when my youngest of three children reached 16 I would go away on my own for 2 weeks, as I thought I had thoroughly deserved it!!!

The trip was everything I hoped it would be! Excellent yoga, (don’t go on a retreat unless you know who the teacher is and know that you like the style of yoga.), a gorgeous centre, a fascinating and beautiful culture, delicious food! And HOT WEATHER!

yoga centreI knew I would be in great hands with Duncan Hulin from The Devon School of yoga as I recently finished a yoga therapy course with him. We did yoga… lots of yoga (meditation kriyas, asana, satsang, pranayama and more meditation). There is a difference between a yoga holiday where you might do a bit of yoga but then have a lot of time to ‘holiday’ and a yoga retreat.!!

As a yoga teacher to think about my own practice and not think about teaching for a while was wonderful. And I came to the realisation that I need to do it every year!!!!! Yoga retreats give us so much, a chance to stop, rest, think about things, change bad habits and patterns of behaviour and assess how we are living our lives.

yoga centreOur bodies and minds come back stronger, and healthier. I have a few photos to share to give you a little taste.

So you may not be in a position to go on your own yoga retreat at the moment but hopefully we have lots of classes, courses and workshops to keep you going in the mean time….

“Change is not something that we should fear. Rather, it is something that we should welcome. For without change, nothing in this world would ever grow or blossom, and no one in this world would ever move forward to become the person they’re meant to be.”
