Therapist Darren Oyston Massage

Much of my working life was in the stressful corporate world of ever increasing pressure and deadlines. Over the years this not only impacted my body with tight muscles leading to headaches, discomfort, and difficulty in sleeping, but also affected my emotional wellbeing and left me with little energy to cope with additional stresses. I’ve always had a passion for massage and the range of benefits it can provide, so when I reached a point where I had to make a positive change in my life I again looked towards massage. This led me to train formally as a holistic massage therapist to do something that will make a positive difference to the lives of others.

October 2017 newsletter

There’s a peaceful revolution quietly spreading through West Bromwich Albion’s training ground this season.

More and more players are starting their working days trying to balance their yin and yang on the yoga mat with Tamworth teacher Lee Canterbury-Evans.

Last season, 47-year-old Lee would only get three of four players to each of his sessions – held every Tuesday and Thursday before training.

But word is spreading, the classes are growing, and a lot of the new faces are Albion’s summer signings. It’s always been a voluntary session, but there’s one player in particular who is there week in, week out.

“Craig Dawson has been doing it for about five years,” revealed Lee. “You can tell because he’s never had a strain, or a hamstring problem. It’s a preventative tool and because he got on top of it, it’s spread through the dressing room.”

Yogathon in Guy’s Marsh Prison

Sarah Ryan was involved in a yogathon in Guy’s Marsh Prison. Thank you Sarah for letting us share your experiences:

On January 26th Shaftesbury yoga teacher Sally Rainbowchild organised a Yogathon in Guy’s Marsh Prison where she teaches yoga regularly. Having earlier sent her my passport details, I turned up that morning and was let in. If you have never entered a prison, it can be quite intimidating, and it was very reassuring to see Sally’s beaming face on the other side of the door lock!

Background

On December 11th in 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21st as the International Day of Yoga. The  declaration came after the call for the adoption of June 21st as  International Day of Yoga by the Indian Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi during his address to UN General Assembly on  September 27, 2014 wherein he stated:

“Yoga is an invaluable gift of India s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body;  thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between  man and nature; a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. It is  not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with  yourself, the world and the nature… “

In Suggesting June 21, which is  the Summer Solstice, as the International Day of Yoga, Mr. Narendra Modi had said that,

“… the date is the longest day of the  year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in  many parts of the world.”
