Embodying Menopause

Inspiring Women’s Infinite Feminine Power

No matter where you are in your menopausal journey, you can be sure it is a time of profound transformation. You are invited to spend a day with Sarah Burt and Victoria Smisek, to explore this transformational process in a variety of ways.

We will be learning about the biological/physiological and hormonal changes that occur in a womens body during this potent time.

We will use the naturopathic approach to help us manage any symptoms during this natural and transformative time in our lives, using herbal tonics, supplements and dietary advice.

We will use Qoya inspired movement to bring our experience into embodied awareness. Qoya is a way of dancing our relationship to something to get out of our heads and into our bodies, to access the wisdom that is already there, and connect us with our feminine essence of being Wise, Wild and Free!

We will spend some time in short guided mindfulness practice to bring greater presence and to learn to be with our experience in a different kind of way.

There will also be time for sharing and journaling to further our learning together.

  • Victoria Smisek – Psychotherapist, Qoya and Mindfulness Teacher

Author of ‘Falling Awake – a Heroine’s Journey’. Through her own journey of Qoya Inspired Movement and Mindfulness Based Approaches, Victoria has become passionate about helping others to be in their truth. Gong Bath- Stress

Stress is such an intrinsic part of modern life that we’ve come to accept it as ‘normal’ and, whilst some stress is useful and necessary for the body to function, being constantly under stress is not, and can over time lead to illness both physical and mental.
The good news is that there’s lots we can do to help ourselves and restore some balance.
In this workshop, we’ll practice simple, fun Yoga postures to strengthen our nervous and glandular systems against the effects of stress, do some soothing pranayama, use meditation and mantra as stress relief to calm ourselves, and finally I’ll treat you to a long relaxing Gong bath to complete the session.
Whilst the Yoga can be done by anyone, and all postures can be adapted, the Gong is not advisable during pregnancy, nor for those with epilepsy, severe mental illness, or a pacemaker. Please do contact me if you have any questions about this workshop.

Reiki Share

The Japanese word ‘Reiki’ literally translates as universal life force energy. This system of healing was developed by Mikao Usui the early 20th century. It is a non-invasive complementary therapy that has been taught and used in the UK since the late 1900s, but Eastern medicine has for thousands of years worked with this energy, recognising its flow through all living things. Reiki supports orthodox medicine or can be used alone but is not a replacement for traditional medication or treatments. It is not based on any belief, faith or suggestion, yet, scientific research using quantum physics is starting to help us to understand how Reiki healing may work to benefit the individual. It has been suggested that in years to come it may be known as energy medicine based on scientifically measurable energy emitted from the practitioner’s hands.

A reiki share is a gathering to give and receive Reiki in a casual atmosphere of friendship, honour, positive energy and devotion. If you are new to Reiki and interested in joining please contact Karen. The class will be led by Reiki Masters Karen Giles and Wrio Russell. The Reiki Share is held every two months, the last Saturday of the month.

Vedic Chanting

Vedic chanting is a wonderful thing to do, and complements yoga practice beautifully: it helps to deepen our experience. The Veda-s are the amazing ancient teachings of India, in which you can see the beginnings of yoga. They are in Sanskrit, the language of yoga and of mantra, and go back thousands of years. (Passed on orally for a very long time, they were only written down about three thousand years ago). Chanting them helps with self-expression, and gives us joy…. and you don’t have to be able to sing! There are only 3 notes!
I have been fortunate enough to be learning this practice for over 30 years, and still have lessons with my teacher.
If you decide to continue, you will need to buy the book that has the chants we shall be using, but you wont need this to begin with.
Sarah  teaches the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali from 10.30-11.45am before this class, and the two are wonderful together as both are written in the ancient text of Sanskrit and complement each other.  Both are also the beginnings to our modern yoga practice. This class is a donations based class and all proceeds will go to the charity:

Practical Action
Your gift will support people around the world in tackling their toughest challenges. Adapting to and withstanding the worst affects of climate change. Harnessing the transformational power of clean energy. Improving sanitation and living conditions in overcrowded cities. Recovering from the long term impact of the pandemic.

  • In an individualized, one-to-one setting

  • As multi-dimensional in its approach, often utilizing many tools of Yoga

  • As a process focused on the individual, not just the illness

  • As a context-sensitive method, respecting the age, occupation, ability and other parameters of the individual

Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, probably composed around 2,000 years ago, are universally recognised as the classic teaching and ultimate authority on yoga. Amazingly, they are still completely relevant to our life and times.

They consist of 195 short aphorisms, because they were designed to be learned by heart. They therefore have to be explained and discussed with a teacher who has learned them with a teacher. Sarah Ryan has been studying the sutras for many years and has a wealth of information. Each session is a mix of teaching, discussion and practice, with one or two sutras studied in depth each week. It is not only very suitable for yoga teachers who can use it as In-Service Training, but also for any student who wants to know more about yoga. The ideas behind yoga practice are fascinating and extremely useful, helping us to better understand ourselves and our life. Do come and join us. These monthly meetings work as stand-alone sessions – you don’t have to have attend each month.

Sarah  teaches Vedic Chanting directly after this class at 12.00-1.00pm and the two are wonderful together as both are written in the ancient text of Sanskrit and complement each other as both are the beginnings to our modern yoga practice.
