Asana: more commonly translated as posture, is derived from the Sanskrit root “to stay” “to be” or ”to sit”.

Last month we looked at the first two limbs of yoga, yamas and niyamas, would it not be enough to be compassionate, truthful and content? Surely we should work at these? Why do we need to stretch our bodies?

Yoga Sutra of Patanjali – yama and niyama

The Yoga Sutra, widely regarded as the authoritative text on yoga, is a collection of aphorisms, outlining the eight limbs (or steps) of yoga.Patanjali statue

These “threads” (as sutra translates from Sanskrit) of wisdom offer guidelines for living a meaningful and purposeful life.

There are 196 of them and they were written by the ancient sage Patanjali, possibly at least 1,700 years ago. Patanjali reflected on the nature of woman and man and the norms of his society at the time and he systematically expressed his observations in the sutras which deal with the entire span of life.

April 2017 newsletter

Welcome to our April newsletter – from all us at the centre we would like to wish you a Happy Easter. Spring is a time of new growth and we are in the midst of having a new therapy room built. Apologies for any disturbances but it won’t be long now!

Therapist Massage and Reiki Annabel Fox

I have always been interested in Complementary therapy and as a child was blessed with two grandmothers who were both into natural healing.

Long walks in the countryside, an interest in nature, good healthy home cooked food and homeopathy were among the principles I grew up with. I worked for many years in sales and marketing and learnt that city life and constant stress were not the path for me. It also taught me what stress does to the body and made me look at ways to overcome it.

How to add a google review

We would really appreciate some positive feedback on our google business page. If you have 5 minutes, please can you leave us a review? Here is how to to do it:

  1. 1. Click on this link to open new window with the search or search google for Dorset Yoga or Dorchester Yoga
  2. 2. Arrive at the results page. You should see Dorchester Yoga and Therapy Centre listed directly under the map (Firefox and Safari) or on the right hand side (Chrome)
  3. 3. Click on it and you should go through the to google ‘business listing’ (ie not our website)
  4. 4. In the listing you should see ‘Reviews’ – and a button called ‘Write a review’
  5. 5. You will need to sign in with your google account to write a review
  6. 6. Sign in to make a review or you can cancel here if you don’t have the energy
